Session Descriptions
Leading Optimistically - Rigorous research demonstrates that our level of optimism can greatly impact our performance, our ability to work within a team, and impact the teams we lead. A process will be provided to increase one’s level of optimism, and we’ll explore things that can hurt optimism.

Improve your Business Model - In most parks departments the general fund does not provide the support like what it once did for programming and parks resources. We must develop alternative methods to drive non-tax revenue while maintaining or improving the customer experience. We'll look at social marketing, improving donations, pricing strategies, and much more in this interactive session. We'll delve into more than 30 specific ideas that don't require funds to initiate, are based upon sound research, and practical application at a parks department.

Get Charged Up! - Learn researched-based methods to create meaning for your work, improve relationships; making work with a purpose – not just a place.


Business Plans - Business plans are the cornerstone of most successful companies. You'll learn why they are important for us in the parks profession, how to develop one, and the fruit that can result from developing them.

Upselling, Bundling and Cross Selling - Corporations are making millions of dollars from the marketing and sales strategies of upselling, cross-selling, and bundling. Are there opportunities in the parks and recreation industry? You bet there are! We'll look at examples in the market place, opportunities in our industry, and work together to develop a plan to make it happen for you. You'll see how one parks department is driving record revenue as a result of implementing these strategies, and the fun that can be had in the process.


Speaker: Jeff Price
Jeff has been in the Parks and Recreation profession for 27 years. He holds an MBA, has been an adjunct professor and has been a trainer for parks departments, cities across the U.S. and Fortune 500 companies. He recently assisted the U.S. National Park Service with their business plan for their national parks. Jeff has won numerous awards for community engagement and programming excellence. He has presented keynotes and workshops at more then 20 conferences both nationally and internationally, and was recognized for innovation in municipal government by Landscape Architect Magazine.
