Sports 101: Gain an overview and introduction to the foundations and principles involved in offering athletic programs.  Class will introduce:


  • Fundamental philosophies, rights and principles of athletics that every sport professional should consider.
  • Risk, Security & Insurance considerations they owe to athletes, coaches, administrators, agency, independent teams, officials, etc.,
  • Customer service considerations with a focus on competitive athletics including the special political realm, differing play philosophies, competitive nature where the customer isn't always right, family special requests, etc.,
  • Levels of sports programming from clinics to tournaments as well as "recreation" to "club" competition and how they match up to the philosophies, rights and principles;
  • Define a variety of sport delivery models and hybrids including the associated responsibilities and pro's and con's of each based on earlier objectives and more


Sports 102: Put philosophy and principles of Sports 101 into practice. Class will explore:

  • Organizing a system for administrating sports. Focus areas include setting protocols, a budget and accounting structure that ensures accountability, and successful league administration strategies.
  • Staffing athletic programs. From commissioners to coaches to score/time keepers with accredited staff in key roles to ensure a safe and GoodSport experience for all.
  • Game management. How to manage sport officials and other contest staff.  Determining and arranging game officials including the key knowledge areas to ensure the best possible calls.
  • Fair scheduling.  Scheduling that balances play, times, levels, and needs of all involved.

                                 Sports 101 9:30-12:30

                                 Lunch 12:30: 1:15 (full day participants only)

                                 Sports 102 1:15-4:15 PM (Check-in 1:00-1:15 PM, light snacks provided)

(note: we have to say pending after ceu credits until they are approved. Flier will need to be redone after they are approved)
