Maintenance Track – Wednesday & Thursday, April 5 & 6, 2017

Day One –
Morning session - Maintenance of turf and landscape beds with organic materials, workshop and demonstration. This is fundamentally different from the conventional product approach to turf management and provides landscape professionals with a holistic, natural alternative.
Afternoon session - Visit to Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware the most recent National Gold Medal winning State system. Learn about their policies on fee generation and use of gravel vs. paved trails’ environmental benefits and cost considerations. See the raised boardwalk section of trail that uses metal support posts, floor grates with wood side rails and raised caps, and hear about why these materials were chosen and see how they have held up over 4 years in a harsh environment.
Day Two –
Morning session – Northside Park Building Inspection and Assessment. Visit Northside Park where staff from the City of Rockville and M-NCPPC will conduct an “annual inspection” of the building to assess floors, walls, finishes, ceilings, roofs, electric, HVAC, etc. Receive a “check sheet” that can be used at your buildings in your home departments.
Afternoon session - Alternative Mow Zones
Take a tour of some of Worcester County parks showing reduced mowing options that demonstrate how embracing sustainability and creativity will reduce maintenance cost (by 33%), enhance aesthetics, resolve problems, increase functionality and convey a ‘nature park’ theme. I
