The Special Programs Division of the Prince George’s County Department of Parks and
Recreation, of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is seeking a
Therapeutic Recreation Manager.
Our ideal candidate manages the Disability Services including the supervision of the
Therapeutic Recreation Unit, with oversight of Inclusion Services on a county-wide
basis. This individual will be responsible for the development and administration of
highly complex specialized Therapeutic Recreation programs and services to meet the
changing recreational needs of county residents with disabilities. This is a highly
visible position with considerable community contact.
Examples of Important Duties:
• Manages the Department’s Disability Services including the supervision of the Therapeutic Recreation Unit, with oversight over Inclusion Services.
• Leads the Departmental team of Regional Coordinators, Program Managers, Adapted Aquatics, Training and Resource Coordinators.
• Defines Departmental Strategic Initiatives and Unit Goals (comp rec program plan, 2040 and beyond).
• Serves as subject matter expert for program accessibility issues (ADA program access), and facility design and development.
• Investigates complaints, and responds to issues of non-compliance and discrimination with regard to ADA.
• Builds relationships with citizens, community, and advocacy groups and other stakeholders, and advocates for the services for individuals with disabilities.
• Develops quality assurance, program standards, and performance measures for consistency across the Areas.
• Assists in the management of Division Budget by preparing annual budget request, and ensures adequate funding for inclusion services.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree or four years progressively responsible experience in therapeutic recreations or related field (e.g., special education, vocational rehabilitation, human development, etc.) and six years professional managerial experience in the field including three years experience at a supervisory level; or
2. Master's degree or six years progressively responsible experience in public administration* or related field (e.g., business administration, personnel, etc.); and four years professional experience in managerial or supervisory role in community-based leisure/recreational programs for individuals; or
3. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
4. Valid driver's license, or the ability to acquire one.
*One degree must be in the therapeutic recreation area. It may be at the bachelor's or
the master's level.

The Special Programs Division of the Prince George's County Department of Parks and

Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator(s).
Our ideal candidate is responsible for assisting in the management and supervision of
Therapeutic Recreation programs and oversight of Inclusion Services within assigned
geographic area. This individual will provide the highest level of technical assistance

Examples of Important Duties:

* Actively builds relationships with stakeholders within their region to inform about program opportunities, seek and build collaborations and partnerships, and outreach to expand participation. Meets with citizens, community, and advocacy groups, Board of Education personnel, and other local, state, and federal government agencies to regarding community needs related to individuals with disabilities.
* Manages regional budget. Monitors and controls expenditures and revenues in accordance with approved budget.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree or four years progressively responsible experience in therapeutic recreation or related area of study* (e.g., special education, recreation administration, human development, etc.) and five years of professional/managerial experience in the field or

Recreation Services Supervisor-Community Center Manager

Position Summary: Manages, supervises and coordinates the programs and activities of the Roger Carter Community Center facility within the Department of Recreation and Parks.
Class Description: Performs intermediate professional level recreation services work, which may include supervision, under general supervision from an administrative or technical superior. Work includes the management and supervision of Recreation and Parks programs, classes and events, and can also include the management of large facilities. This oversight can be in a functional area of expertise, facility or geographic area. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties

• Oversee the management and operation of a regional, multifunctional community center.
• Coordination of building scheduling with Department program staff and other user groups.
• Coordination with the Bureau of Parks and Bureau of Facilities for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Minimum Required Education/Experience: Bachelor Degree and two years

• Knowledge of common recreational and social needs of the senior population.
• Considerable knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program.

member of the Construction Services Section managing park construction projects and

Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks seeks a results-oriented professional to
provide leadership and management of our $2 million enterprise operations, which includes

Specific Expectations:

• Must have a demonstrated track record of success in a leadership role responsible for revenue enhancement and fiscal responsibility.
• Candidate should also possess a strong background in neighborhood outreach, coordination with community and special needs groups, knowledge of recreational policy formation, strategic planning; and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Position Summary: Provides coordination and supervision of teen classes, teen special events and camps. Operates within a self-sustaining and teamwork environment. Provide senior administrative support to the Recreation Services Manager for teen and grant programs.
Class Description: Performs senior support level administrative and recreation related services work under general supervision from an administrative or technical superior. Work includes overseeing, planning, and directing the safe and efficient operation of a variety of recreation programs and services at Recreation and Parks facilities and playgrounds. Coordinates externally with community groups and volunteers, manages facility arrangements, maintains records and prepares evaluative reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Under the direction of the Recreation Manager:
• Identify current trends and develop programs, classes and events for ages 11-17.
• Coordinate program instructors, locations and logistics.
• Provide exceptional customer service to participants, families, staff members and all individuals and groups impacted by the
programs.
• Demonstrate financial accountability through managing program budgets including determining fee structure, tracking expense
and submitting quarterly budget reports.
• Supervise programs to ensure compliance with Department policies and completing formal site visit evaluations and inspections.
• Some evening and weekend work is required.
• Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate contingent staff.
• Recruit contractual instructors and monitor the contract status.
• Lead Teen Clubs
• Provide outreach to schools and community partners to create and promote programming for Howard County youth with
emphasis on adolescents at risk.
• Utilize web software to create and distribute program evaluations, tabulate and analyze data
• Utilize registration software to run detailed marketing and financial reports, track class enrollment and make decisions regarding cancellations, and prepare and distribute official class records to instructors.
• Input contingent staff payroll, prepare bi-weekly payroll report using web based payroll system.
• Create and edit content for Department seasonal brochures.
• Create or coordinate a variety of supplemental marketing collateral using desktop publishing software, including graphic design, layout and written content.
• Develop and implement targeted e-marketing efforts, including creation of e-newsletters using web software and coordinating
content placement in electronic newsletters, and online media outlets.
• Coordinate facility usage with Howard County Public School System personnel and HCRP staff. Submit permits through HCPSS online permitting system. Track permit approvals and cancellations.
• Order, purchase and deliver program equipment and supplies.
• Responsible for identifying and applying good sustainability practices into all aspects of Department operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Coordinates work assignments for five to fifteen contingent staff. This employee does assist supervisor with monitoring the performance of contingent workers. Involved with recruiting, interviewing and training staff.
Minimum Required Education/Experience: Associate Degree or two years of college education in recreation, education, communication, sports management, physical education or related fields of study, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Preferred Education/Experience:
• Two years recreational experience working with youth.
• Demonstrated skill in staff supervision and youth program development
• Strong knowledge of recreation programming and the ability to multi-task.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of overall program policies and procedures.
• Organizational and computer skills in Word, Excel and Publisher.
• Excellent public relations skills.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
• Valid Class C driver's license along with a copy of driving record.
• Ability to acquire CPR and First Aid certification.

Position Summary: Manages, maintains, and oversees the day-to-day operations of
the Robinson Nature Center (RNC). Will work Wednesday through Sunday. This position does
include working weekends and possibly some evenings.
Class Description: This is semi-skilled manual work in the maintenance of park lands and related facilities and structures. Work involves the use of a variety of tools and equipment and the application of basic horticultural and landscaping principles. Work is performed with general supervision from a crew leader. An employee in this class works with others to accomplish an assigned part of Park operations in grounds maintenance, sports field preparation, construction, or park-site management. Assignments are stable in nature and are carried out in accordance with instructions and established routines. Work may include considerable public contact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties as assigned.
• Performs the maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment at the Center.
• Performs and supervises custodial services provided at the Center.
• Inspects the site to ensure that facilities, grounds, and equipment are in proper condition and that safety standards are
maintained.
• Responsible to assist with the set up and take down for programs, classes & events including some janitorial duties.
• Resolves operational issues which arise at the Center.
• Develops and oversees the completion of work projects.
• Oversees the work of outside contractors at the Center.
• Purchases and inventories supplies and equipment.
• Public Relations – receives and responds to questions and complaints from the public. Must be able to interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
• Trail Maintenance - Performs trail maintenance and assists with trail layout and design. Conducts, coordinates and assists with
volunteer plantings and trail maintenance work days.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required which may include, but limited to: General building and grounds maintenance associated with operating a nature center.
• Sets up and takes down tables/chairs and various other items required for meetings, trainings, special events etc.
• Performs various minor building maintenance activities such as fixing /adjusting doors, hinges, changing light bulbs, etc.
• Performs various janitorial duties not covered in the janitorial contract to include the operation of buffers, carpet cleaners, safe use of various chemical cleaning agents, trash removal, etc.
• Constructs the physical components of interpretive display media as required
• Performs and/or oversees various landscape maintenance activities such as mowing, weeding, edging, mulching, pruning, raking, planting, fertilizing, etc.
• Determines and applies appropriate pesticides for vegetation control

Minimum Required Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the 10th grade plus 1 year of experience in landscaping, park maintenance, or a related field; or, completion of course work in horticulture or park/resource management plus 1 year of general laboring experience.
